This week you demonstrate mastery of everything we've studied in Cycle 6. You will show what you know about plate boundaries, seafloor spreading, volcanic systems, and Earth's interior β and how they all connect to one big idea: Earth's interior heat drives everything that happens on the surface.
Cycle 6 β What You've Learned
- Week 1 β Plate Boundaries & Seismic Patterns: Three boundary types (divergent, convergent, transform); mantle convection drives plate movement; earthquakes cluster at boundaries (Ring of Fire, Mid-Atlantic Ridge).
- Week 2 β Seafloor Spreading & Continental Drift: Mid-ocean ridges at divergent boundaries; magnetic stripe symmetry proves spreading; Pangaea evidence from coastlines, fossils, and rock formations.
- Week 3 β Volcanic Eruption Styles: High silica β explosive (Plinian); low silica β effusive (Hawaiian); pyroclastic flows are more dangerous than lava; monitoring with seismometers, GPS, and SOβ sensors.
- Week 4 β Earth's Interior Structure: P-waves vs. S-waves; the S-wave shadow zone proves the outer core is liquid; four layers β crust, mantle, outer core, inner core; density increases with depth.

Can you trace this whole chain? Everything we studied in Cycle 6 connects to this one idea. The heat inside Earth is the engine. Convection in the mantle is the mechanism.
