Teacher Monitoring Guide
Grade 7 · Cycle 1 · Week 7 — Sexual vs. Asexual
Reproduction
Learning Goal
Students will compare and contrast sexual and asexual reproduction,
explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each strategy in different
environmental contexts.
Station Checkpoints
Station 1 — Hook & Phenomenon
Look for: Students connecting the phenomenon to prior knowledge and
generating testable questions
Common misconception: Sexual reproduction is always better — show how
asexual reproduction provides advantages in stable, optimal environments
through rapid population growth
Station 2 — Investigation / Data Collection
Look for: Accurate data recording and identification of emerging
patterns in the evidence
Common misconception: Offspring from sexual reproduction are completely
different from parents — clarify that they share 50% of each parent's
alleles on average
Station 3 — Sense-Making
Look for: Students revising their model based on evidence collected
during investigation
Common misconception: Meiosis and mitosis produce the same result —
contrast chromosome number, genetic diversity, and biological purpose of
each process
