Teacher Monitoring Guide
Grade 7 · Cycle 1 · Week 8 — Synthesis &
Assessment
Learning Goal
Students will integrate cycle concepts — cells, specialization, heredity,
mutations, and reproduction — to construct a comprehensive explanation of
how life perpetuates and adapts across generations.
Station Checkpoints
Station 1 — Hook & Phenomenon
Look for: Students connecting the phenomenon to prior knowledge and
generating testable questions
Common misconception: Cycle concepts are independent topics — use a case
study (e.g., cancer) to show how cell division, gene expression, and
mutation interact
Station 2 — Investigation / Data Collection
Look for: Accurate data recording and identification of emerging
patterns in the evidence
Common misconception: Assessment is about memorizing facts — emphasize
applying models and reasoning from evidence to novel scenarios
Station 3 — Sense-Making
Look for: Students revising their model based on evidence collected
during investigation
Common misconception: More detail always means better understanding —
guide students to identify the key mechanisms at each level of
organization
