Teacher Monitoring Guide
Grade 7 · Cycle 8 · Week 3 — Year-End Integration
& Assessment
Learning Goal
Students will synthesize G7 ecology and earth science concepts to
construct a comprehensive explanation of how living systems and Earth
systems interact across multiple scales of time and space.
Station Checkpoints
Station 1 — Hook & Phenomenon
Look for: Students connecting the phenomenon to prior knowledge and
generating testable questions
Common misconception: Ecology and geology are separate subjects — use
examples like watershed management and soil formation to show how
geological processes shape and are shaped by living systems
Station 2 — Investigation / Data Collection
Look for: Accurate data recording and identification of emerging
patterns in the evidence
Common misconception: Year-end review means re-reading notes — emphasize
transfer: applying concepts to novel scenarios not encountered during
the year's instruction
Station 3 — Sense-Making
Look for: Students revising their model based on evidence collected
during investigation
Common misconception: Only individual performance matters — structure
collaborative synthesis tasks that model how scientists work across
disciplines to solve complex problems

For students scoring below 10 pts on the exit ticket: use the sentence
frames below during the next class's hook.
- "I notice that _____ because _____."
- "The evidence shows _____, which means _____."
