REF STUDY GUIDE: Big Ideas Use to answer form questions
1.Magnets create invisible force fields that attract or repel other magnets and magnetic materials. Magnetic force decreases rapidly with distance (inverse relationship). Electromagnets use electric current through a coil to create controllable magnetic fields — more coils and more current mean a stronger field.
2.Electricity and magnetism are two aspects of the same force. Moving charges create magnetic fields (electromagnets), and changing magnetic fields create electric current (electromagnetic induction). This unification powers generators, motors, and transformers — the foundation of modern technology.
3.Circuits, power, and mechanical advantage connect through energy transfer. Voltage pushes current through resistance (V = IR), power measures the rate of energy transfer (P = VI), and mechanical advantage lets small motors produce large forces by trading speed for torque through gear ratios. Energy is never created or destroyed — only transformed.
