Grade 7 SY26 EOY Capstone · Week 1 of 4

Evidence Hunt

Grade 7 Science | Rosche

This week you collect real artifacts from your year in science to discover how you ask, test, model, explain, revise, and grow as a scientist.

How to Use This Page

  • This capstone is paper-first and off-tech. Your printed packet is where the daily work lives. Work in your packet every day.
  • This Canvas page is a backup mirror โ€” you only need it when you want to look something back up, find an online resource, or submit work digitally.
  • Text-to-Speech tip: In Chrome, right-click any paragraph and choose Read aloud to have the page read to you.

Open Your Packet

Use your printed packet as your working document. This week you are completing the Week 1 Evidence Hunt table.

Artifact

A real piece of work from this year โ€” a model, graph, CER, worksheet, quiz, notebook page, or photo.

Evidence

What the artifact proves about your thinking โ€” not just what it shows, but what it tells you about how your mind works.

Scientist Habit

The part of you as a scientist that the artifact shows โ€” like asking questions, revising ideas, or explaining with evidence.

What Counts as an Artifact

  • A model, graph, CER response, worksheet, project, notebook page, quiz correction, simulation note, or photo of your work.
  • A strong artifact can show struggle, revision, or growth โ€” it does not need to be your highest grade. In fact, something you fixed is often the best evidence.
  • Printed teacher notes, Canvas examples, or IXL evidence can help if your teacher provides them, but your packet does not depend on a device.
Hint: Not sure if your artifact counts?

Ask yourself: Does this piece of work show me doing something a scientist does? If yes, it counts. If it only shows you copied notes, look for something that shows you thinking, questioning, or revising.

Today's Work

  1. List at least five possible artifacts from your year in science.
  2. Choose your strongest three โ€” these are the ones that tell the most honest story about you as a scientist.
  3. For each artifact, write in your packet: "This artifact shows I am a scientist who ___ because ___."
  4. Ask a partner: "What does this artifact prove about me?" Write down what they say and revise at least one note based on their feedback.
Sentence frame help

Example: "This artifact shows I am a scientist who revises my thinking because I changed my model three times after getting new data."

Scientist habit words you can use: asks questions, plans tests, uses models, analyzes data, argues from evidence, communicates clearly, revises ideas, explains cause and effect, connects to patterns.

Week 1 Checkpoint

Ready when… Evidence that shows it
3 to 5 artifacts chosen Each artifact is named and located in your packet.
Evidence notes written Each note explains what the artifact proves about your thinking โ€” not just what the artifact is.
Partner interview complete At least one evidence note was revised after hearing your partner's feedback.

Looking Back & Online Help

For the times you are on a device, here are three ways this Canvas page can support you:

Check your grades & feedback

Open the Canvas Grades area for this course to see checkpoint scores and teacher comments. This is the fastest way to know if you are on track.

Find online resources

Practice science vocabulary at the Vocabulary practice tool (opens in a new tab). Check Canvas for any other resources your teacher has posted.

Ask or search a question

Post in the Canvas course Q&A discussion, ask your teacher directly, or do a safe search to look something up. Remember: this page is a backup โ€” your packet and your teacher are always your first stop.
